“This is a brief introduction, reviewing the teaching of the previous semester. These ideas from my class can be used as a reference for teachers who need online teaching. They can also be another way to provide various homework.

 

Why we need to do online teaching

The suspension of classes in mid-May caught everyone off guard. We have the experience of last year and know that we should accumulate English online resources in normal time, and we can use them when we need them. The biggest difficulty we have encountered is that students cannot attend online classes on time. Therefore, our schools adopt synchronous or asynchronous teaching. The following is the practice of my school for your reference. I hope that teachers can have the opportunity to make use of them in future teaching.

Teaching Material:

A. Oral exam review
When we stopped the course, we still had the oral exam course not reviewed and the oral exam had not been completed. So we provide students’ listening files and encourage them to review the files online. We ask the foreign teacher to record the standard sound file first, and students can imitate and practice the oral examination. We use the recording function on the platform to allow students to do the recording.

B. Oral exam Recording
Students use the platform to practice recording oral exams and send the files, and the teacher immediately listens to the files and gives feedback to them. The whole process is convenient, instant and complete. More importantly, some students with poor levels can practice many times before handing in papers. It achieves the purpose of meaningful learning.

C. Pronunciation Review PPT and Test
We have a pronunciation textbook adapted from the Hsinchu City Government’s publication. I added the sound file into the slideshow, and then I asked the students to fill out a google form of the review test to prove that they are able to answer the questions and they already understand the content of the lecture.

D. Reading and listening material: ICRT News Lunchbox and the test
After the oral exam, the semester came to an end. Therefore, in order to improve the reading ability of students, I added ICRT News Lunchbox as a daily reading and listening article into the text. Every five days, I give students a test for practice, and let the parents know the results. In order to challenge themselves, students will work hard to repeatedly turn in the paper to 100 points. Repeated practice can improve students' level, which is the biggest benefit of online teaching and learning.

Notes:
This time, I have been using asynchronous teaching as the main course, because my homeroom teachers told me that many students cannot take classes synchronously, so we have no other choice but to try this way. However, in the new coming semester, if there is still needed, we will cooperate with the school to teach in a synchronized way.
