“This article mentions about how to prepare a good teaching demonstration. There are seven professionalTaiwanese English teachers at Minfu School. Why did I have o do teaching demonstration? Because when the wheel spun to choose somebody, it chooses me!!! How unlucky I am! In a word, this decision is from the God so I accept it and will think about how to do the best.

To the teachers of Minfu I thank for giving me a lot of help and suggestions to make my teaching demonstration better.
I worked in an English cram school for 7 years before becoming an elementary school teacher. I worked with foreign teachers every day to improve my speaking and listening. I used body language and spoke simple English sentences to students, and I didn’t use very much Chinese during the whole class. Chinese is not allowed to be spoken in class, The students remind each other ‘’No Chinese!’’ Children have a short attention span, so we use games to attract their attention. And now, I use the skills I learned in elementary school.
By the way, readers can not only increase children's vocabulary, but also enhance children's oral expression ability. With the students, cultivating good reading interest is very important.
Right now I am teaching the book Dino On the Go 5 U.4. What’s Wrong? The content is about the parts of the body. First, I play nursery rhyme ”Head,shoulders,knees and toes’’ to make sure they know the body parts in English. Next, I teach the book ‘’From head to toe’’ to review the animals learned in the previous lesson and combine the body parts in the new lesson. We practice the sentences patterns, and we do actions together instead of sitting in a seat and listening to the teacher. After that, there are a few writing and speaking games. This is different from the old-fashioned way of English teaching.
During the teaching
I teach Grade Five Dance Class at Minfu School. What is the dance class? Five Dance Class is the only dance class in the fifth grade. They don’t have PE classes but they have to practice dancing every day. There are only 3 boys in the 26 students. Although there are many girls in the class, they all help each other anytime. The whole class is very united and the class atmosphere is very good. Because of parents’ pressure, they will put pressure on themselves to complete everything. They don’t give up easily and always enjoy teaching. It is a very good class. That’s why I chose them!

☆Teacher puts the poster on the whiteboard and the sudents write the words of parts of body learned in the last lesson on the post-it.
→When the game begins, students ask the sentence pattern ”What’s wrong?” by turns and teacher answers the pattern ”My ___ hurts” with different words of body parts.
→Then, students should try to find the certain vocabulary that teacher answered and put the post-in on the poster.

After the teaching
Thank the English teachers in different schools for giving me a lot of praise and encouragement. One of the teachers guessed that I used to teach English in an English cram school because I used games to teach English. BINGO! Through games, children are not stressed to learn English. Children are interested in the English lesson and study hard at home as well.
And 5 dance class didn’t talk to me in Chinese during the lesson. We spoke the simple English words and body language to do a conversation. I think this is a good start.

My reflection
Through this demonstration teaching, I have become stronger and I thank the senior teachers for their suggestions. I have learned a lot. After listening to the suggestions of each teacher, I felt that I also had a lesson, learned about my shortcomings and improved on them. By adjusting the teaching skills to a methodical way, I believe that all of my students in the class can be more enthusiastic and this definitely improves my confidence in educating. In short, I love teaching English and making my student grow up! |
